“Promoting Good Character in the University: How Can We Do It, and Should We Even Bother?”
Presented by Dr. Christian Miller, A.C. Reid Professor of Philosophy
There is good reason to think that most students in America today enter the university without being virtuous people already. Given this assumption, the main focus of this lecture is to examine the following questions: Should we intentionally promote virtue and good character in the university? If so, should we promote all the virtues in general? Or just focus on a few specific virtues? If it is a few specific virtues, which ones? How should universities go about fostering these specific virtues?
